Erewash Writing Competitions as from August 2020
August 2020 - We have a new team here at Erewash Writing Competitions as well as a new name. Everything else about our competitions remains as before. They are organised by volunteer Debbie and a team of volunteers. The main reason the site exists is to encourage and reward writing. Another aim is to provide free entry competitions, or to ask only a reasonable entry fee, to allow as many entrants as possible the opportunity to enter a writing competition.
We are still providing donations to charities whenever we can and we still have a preference to give our spare cash to small charities. You can find out more about our charitable donations on this page
https://erewashwriterscompetition.weebly.com/about-our-charity-donations.html
New members to join our reading team are welcome to apply. There is no payment to anyone involved in the provision of these competitions except the judge to our annual open short story competitions, and the charities we donate to. If you are interested in joining our team as a reader for our competitions, please email Debbie at [email protected]
Our name has changed to Erewash Writing Competitions but we're keeping old website name https://erewashwriterscompetition.weebly.com for the time being.
You can find full information about our competitions if you follow this link

We welcome entries from world wide. Our competitions are international, open to everyone unless specified in the Rules of Entry. Entries from world wide are welcome. Please tell your friends about us.
These competitions have been provided since 2012, originally on behalf of Erewash Writers' Group which meets in Long Eaton. The group hasn't been able to meet for some time and it's unknown when or if a meeting will occur again. So we've decided to update this website and change our name. We're awaiting news from Janet, the Group's secretary, and will keep information on this site about the group updated, as and when we receive details.
Here is an outline of our history:

Our writing competitions exist to encourage and reward writing.
After our winners have received their prizes we donate cash to charity.
We are particularly interested in hearing from voluntary groups reliant on donations. Although we are more than happy to support large, well-known charities, we are also very keen to donate our cash to groups with less visibility. If you are a group which, for example, does not have a high street charity shop and can't afford massive TV advertising campaigns, then please do contact Debbie to make her aware of your existence.
Our first writing competition in 2012 open to entrants from outside the group raised £60 for a donation. We asked all entrants to nominate a charity or voluntary group based anywhere in the UK. Audrey kindly agreed to pick our winner and the charity name she pulled out of the bag was Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in Sheffield, nominated by entrant Pamela Mann.
Later in 2012 we organised a themed competition. Using the remainder of cash from our first competition, this was a free entry competition and we gave a donation of £40 to Treetops Hospice, Risley as well as awarding £120 in prizes to our winners.
In 2013 we had £60 remaining after paying out all the prize money and St Elizabeth Hospice, Ispwich was picked out of the hat to receive our cash. RSPCA Derby received our £70 cash donation from our 2014 competition. The winner of our 2015 and 2016 competition £50 donation is expected to be drawn from the hat by end of December 2016.
