Third - 'Reflections' by John Parker, Sheffield
Here we are given a real vision of old Venice and the brilliant craftsmen of the island of Murano. The traitorous Roderigo returning after thirty years, a changed man due to the effects of mercury used in early glassmaking.
This was descriptive and atmospheric.
Second - 'May Morning' by Emma Shaw, Middlesex
This is a moving and well written piece poignantly telling the story of Anne Boleyn's misfortunes.
She relays her feelings of betrayal and the injustices she has suffered, as she awaits her execution.
Winning entry - 'Vasily's Choice' by Elizabeth Ducie, Chudleigh
It immediately drew me in with its intriguing story. There's a choice to be made. What will it be? At the end the author cleverly leaves the reader guessing at which person he will leave with.
